Radon Testing Information for Residential and Commercial Properties in Montreal, North Shore and South Shore
Because radon exposure poses serious health risks, we believe it's important to provide reliable information and direct you to competent resources. Multitest is a collection/sales point for dosimeters used in long-term Radon Evolution testing.
WHAT IS RADON AND WHY IS IT DANGEROUS?
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that forms during the decay of uranium in rock. Invisible, odorless, and tasteless, it is present in soil and sometimes in groundwater, everywhere on Earth.
Radon concentrations are generally very low outdoors. Radon dilutes quickly in the air and does not usually cause health problems. However, this gas can accumulate in homes and buildings, particularly in basements and lower levels, and thus lead to health issues.

Health Risks Associated with Radon Exposure
Radon exposure significantly increases the risk of lung cancer, particularly in smokers, where it is the second leading cause. In non-smokers in Canada, prolonged exposure to high radon concentrations is the leading cause of lung cancer.
Since radon is undetectable without specialized testing, Health Canada recommends that all homes be tested to ensure safe indoor air quality.
How to Test for Radon
Radon testing requires specialized equipment and should be conducted over a period of at least three months for accurate results. Since we do not offer radon testing, we recommend consulting the Canadian Lung Association, which provides reliable information and resources on on long-term radon testing and mitigation.
As part of a real estate transaction, a short-term test (ideally lasting 7 days) can be performed. This test is offered by firms recognized by the Canadian National Radon Proficiency Program (C-NRPP) and in accordance with the recommendations of the Canadian Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists (CART).
In this regard, Multitest collaborates with Radon Evolution, and our Longueuil office is a pick-up/sales point for their dosimeter for long-term testing. Please feel free to contact us.

What Are the Safe Levels of Radon?
Health Canada recommends remediation measures for radon concentrations above 200 becquerels per cubic meter (Bq/m³) .

SIGNS YOU MAY NEED RADON TESTING
COMMON SIGNS OF RADON IN YOUR PROPERTY
Radon is invisible and odorless; the only reliable way to detect it is through specialized air quality testing. While there are no visible signs, certain areas in Montreal, South Shore and North Shore have been identified as radon-prone zones.
PLANNING TO BUY OR SELL A PROPERTY
Radon testing is recommended for real estate transactions to ensure the safety and value of properties in Greater Montreal and surrounding areas.
