Radon Testing Information for Residential and Commercial Properties in Montreal, North Shore and South Shore
Multitest does not offer radon testing. However, because radon exposure poses serious health risks, we believe it’s important to provide reliable information and direct you to trusted resources.
What is Radon and Why is It Dangerous?
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that forms when uranium in rock breaks down. It is invisible, odorless, tasteless, and found in soil and sometimes in groundwater, all over the Earth.
Radon concentrations are generally very low outdoors. Radon dilutes quickly in the air, so it does not usually cause health problems. But this gas can accumulate in homes and buildings, especially in basements and lower levels and in this case cause health problems.

Health Risks Associated with Radon Exposure
Radon exposure significantly increases the risk of lung cancer, especially for smokers, where it is the second leading cause. Among non-smokers in Canada, long-term exposure to high radon levels is the leading cause of lung cancer.
Since radon is undetectable without specialized testing, Health Canada recommends that all homes be tested to ensure safe indoor air quality.
How to Test for Radon
Radon testing requires specialized equipment and should be conducted over a period of at least three months for accurate results. Since we do not offer radon testing, we recommend consulting the Canadian Lung Association, which provides reliable information and resources on radon testing and mitigation.

What Are the Safe Levels of Radon?
Health Canada recommends remediation for radon concentrations above 200 Becquerels per cubic meter (Bq/m³).

Signs You May Need Radon Testing
Common Signs of Radon in Your Property
Radon is invisible and odorless; the only reliable way to detect it is through specialized air quality testing. While there are no visible signs, certain areas in Montreal, South Shore and North Shore have been identified as radon-prone zones.
Planning to Buy or Sell a Property
Radon testing is recommended for real estate transactions to ensure the safety and value of properties in Greater Montreal and surrounding areas.
