BNQ Standard and Other Assessments

The Bureau de normalisation du Québec (BNQ) has published standard BNQ 3661-500 on diagnosing potential iron ochre problems. A complete diagnosis cannot be made solely based on the chemical analysis test that we offer. We recommend combining these test results with a camera inspection at least.

The complete diagnosis is costly and has to be done before the construction of the building as per the BNQ. To take into account such as ground slope, soil composition, water table, etc. Doing this expertise during a bearing soil capacity could be less expensive.

Professional Iron Ochre Testing for Residential and Commercial Properties in Montreal, North Shore and South Shore

Multitest provides specialized iron ochre testing services to residential and commercial clients in Montreal, Laval (North Shore), South Shore and Greater Montreal. Iron ochre can lead to significant plumbing issues and basement damage, making professional testing essential.

What is an iron ochre deposit?

Iron ochre is a reddish, gelatinous deposit caused by bacteria interacting with iron-rich groundwater, often clogging drainage systems.

Whether biological (bacteria in the soil react to iron in the water) or chemical (oxidation of certain minerals in the water of the drain), the formation of iron ochre (also called ochre deposits) can clog the French drain (foundation drain).

Why is Iron Ochre Testing Important?

This clogging could lead to excessive humidity around the foundations, which can lead to mold growth inside the building, or develop cracks on the foundation wall.
